Ok so I just had to share this quite brilliant article written by fine art photographer Jenna Martin -
In this she gives new and up & coming photographers a pat on the back - and we need it! And also a few very helpful tips on how to handle setting up shop and dealing with the sometimes, shall we say bitter (?) comments made by established peers. As an up & comer myself, I really needed to hear all this - it could not have come at a better time.
This morning I was feeling a little under the weather after a series of comments on a Facebook photography forum page. Most warranted as I did rock the boat a little but they soon turned personal and before I knew it my work was being compared to that of a seasoned photographer with over 25 years experience. Not fair. Not the point of my post in the first place. So. Then I stumbled upon this article. Oh Jenna I love you! And just like that my mood was lifted and my motivation to keep on doing what I love doing restored.
So folks, a kind word can make the difference between someone having a great day and, well, not. Be kind to your peers, remember where you came from ( we are all beginners at one stage in our life ) and as Jenna put it, "the second we think we know everything is the second we should probably pack it in. I hope I'm a newbie forever :)" .
